One becomes a Christian through faith in Jesus Christ as savior, accepting His Lordship, repentance from sin (that’s confessing to Jesus Christ that you’ve done wrong, telling Him that you are sorry and are making a decision to turn to Him) and being born again of the water and the Spirit. The scripture says: “Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God…Jesus answered, truly; truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again” 1. And also, “Now when they heard {this} they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?’ And Peter {said} to them, ’Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
