The Bible is often called “The Word of God” for indeed it is. The scripture says: “But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is {a matter} of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”;1 The words contained in the Bible are God inspired - man transcribed. Just as in an earlier time when executives would dictate letters or reports for secretaries to type. Yes, the secretary “wrote” it but the inspiration, the intelligence and the concept came from the executive. So it is with the Bible, men actually “penned” the words but God gave them. In some cases, the men did not even understand what they were writing about!
The Bible is actually a collection of 66 books divided into two sections: The Old Testament and The New Testament. The Old Testament covers from the time of creation to about four hundred years before Christ’s birth and the New Testament starts with the birth of Jesus Christ and continues on for a number of years after His death, burial, resurrection and ascension into heaven. Contained within the pages of the Bible are historical accounts, poetry, stories, biographies and prophecies. The Bible is the key to our faith in God for it tells us about Him, carries His commandments and instructions for us, instructs us how to obtain forgiveness and shows us how to live a life pleasing to Him.
