Prayer, quite simply, is communication with God. Anyone can pray and the best way to learn how is to just start! Yes, just start talking to God sincerely from your heart like you would talk to someone who loves you and that you know you can trust.
One doesn’t need fancy words to recite or phrases to chant, in fact, God actually dislikes that type of thing. The Scripture says: "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition, as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need, before you ask Him” 1.
So, how do I do it? Again, just talk to Him! We might suggest that one who has never prayed before starts out with communications that develop relationship. For instance: “Jesus, I want to know you, please help me to change from serving myself to serving you. Please come into my life, forgive me of my sins and direct me in your ways. I receive you and commit to growing in my relationship with you”.
It is perfectly all right for one to then simply “converse” with Him! Tell Him your concerns; lie out your needs before Him, reveal your fears to Him and ask Him to help you. Thank Him for what He has done, is doing and will do in your life and compliment Him (that’s usually called “praise”).
